This sculpture was stolen!
"Forked" by John E. Watts bronze, steel; 67"h X 11"w X 10"d
In November, l996, one of our hard-to-come-by and well-loved sculptures was stolen from our garden. You can not imagine our horror at finding the empty space the morning after the theft.
The sculpture is still out there somewhere. John Watts is the sculptor. He deserves to know it's fate. We had purchased it from him after seeing it in a show in Athens, Georgia, and spending the next eighteen months tracking him down in order to buy it from him. It looked great in the garden, and was there only a short time, but many people had already admired it.
We filed a police report with a picture of the sculpture, but nothing has been accomplished. Now, I'm asking for anyone who may have seen the sculpture in someone's home or garden to contact either us, or the Lumpkin County Sheriff's office so that it may be returned to us. We will press charges. The piece was purchased by us for $800.00 from the artist, and we felt like we were investing in the pleasure and future of our sculpture gardens. The gardens are open to our visitors, and we still feel like they are appreciated enough to keep collecting for its cause.Thank you in advance for any information that you may have.
