Toni Brou"s work is always uplifting and inspirational, and I am always surprised by the unique use of recycled materials in each piece. Slide carousells, old glass plates, or even hub caps are some of the bases for her beaming sun faces. Brou is in Lawrence, Kansas raising three young boys in her very creative way.
Virginia Bullman creates garden sculptures from a mixture of concrete formed over a metal armature. "Otha", the chicken lady, is number 12 of over 20 of her ladies who honor the working domestic woman by showing the strength and kindness of women in each of our pasts. Her assistant, LaNelle Davis, collaborates with her on the largest pieces. Bullman also applies her medium to creating wood sprites, "Pot Heads", mosaic tables and wall hangings.
Bill Cook has been an artist since he was a boy, but it wasn't until the late 1990's that he discovered his passion for stone sculpting. The choice of stone, the finish, the composition of his first piece to be shown here in our gallery is brilliant. His work will be a very exciting journey to follow.
Gary Caldwell has always been attracted to steel. Completely self-taught, he has mastered his craft in stainless steel, researching each creation for anatomic accuracy. His butterflies, and fish are torched into their shape with 6000-degree heat and bent, grinded and then torched again to bring out the cobalt blue, bronze, and black surface colors.
Parren Collery is a hand made tile and mosaic artist who has the wonderful touch of color and cleverness to capture your imagination. Her little wall hangings are just delightful spots of interest that can hang inside or out.
Roberta Elliott is a blacksmith who actually gives a wispy flair to hard metal. Her candelabras look as though they could crawl across the table like a vine. Each piece is hand-crafted, and she makes a wonderful assortment of useful items such as wine racks, door knockers, hummingbirds, music stands, towel bars, hooks, and even beautiful lighting fixtures with hand blown glass globes.
Riley Foster uses recycled lawn mowers, gas tanks, bicycle parts, or anything else he can scrounge to produce exaggerated garden art. His "dirty bugs", human-like characters that move, and large sun faces are included in his very fun display. Some of his characters have found their way into "The House of Blues" art collection.
Karon Owens takes what she finds and renews it's whole meaning. What she can do with a simple gourd is amazing, but then she also combines found natural objects like wood scraps, and stones from her farm, and forms it into a three dimentional message. The details in her burned gourds is extremely detailed.
Dennis Primm welds metal art in both contemporary furniture, and outdoor sculpture. His trellises or obelisks are wonderful additions to any garden, and his tall stringy people are frozen into graceful positions.
Barbara Rheingrover has a world-class reputation and allows our gallery to show a wide variety of her sculptures. The piece pictured to the left, Summit, is pictured on the front of her book, "My Love Affair in Stone", that was released this year. Please see more about her on her Website.
Seasons of Life is the sculpture series that we are hosting in our gallery right now by Barbara Rheingrover. The seven piece series is a powerful message of life's hopes and fears.
Betty Young Ross from Huntsville, Alabama is quickly growing in popularity with our visitors. She has developed a line of sculptures made from paper clay, clay with paper imbedded in it that burns out during the firing process, with a medieval flare called Alchemists with so much character they feel like company in the room. Each one is very differnt and has a wonderful title that begins their story for you. The faces are charming and her details and colors in their robes with objects sometimes included in the sculpture give them even more of the story.
Alberto Salazarte is not only a fine metal sculptor, but also an accomplished musician, specializing in drums and percussion. His sculptures, derived from childhood drawings and sketches, and refined over years, are evidence of his childhood culture in Puerto Rico and the influence of his Cuban parents.
James Sargous is not only a very fine painter, but also a metal sculptor. As with his paintings, he is self-taught and brings to the medium a fresh outlook and a painters' composition. Well, he's pretty good at just about anything he tries to do. His gardening skills are evident in our garden also, as he is co-owner of The Funky Chicken Art Project.
Luon St Pierre is a painter and sculptor of wonderful things. She tries to keep her artwork functional with a miror tucked in somewhere or making a delightful cabinet out of her paintings. Three dimensional wall pieces, benches, trunks, and boxes, all built by her are likely to become subject to her wild pallet.
